Some Remixes are just Shitty Ripoffs

INTRODUCTION

Not all art remixes are equal, some remixes just ripoff the original, and platforms & galleries are wise to exclude these shitty remixes.

Remix Maximalists

“Remix maximalists” assert that the remix is a universally good thing. To them, the quality of a remix doesn’t matter, so long as it meets the minimum legal requirement (not an exact copy; not “falsified”).

From this view, all remixes that transform an original are good and any gallery or platform that excludes themis wrong & improperly censoring art. The opinion of the original artist, and the potential effect on her sales is given no weight, so long as the remix meets the (low) legal requirement of transformation.

Good vs. Shitty Remixes

I observe the RobnessRule: I don’t disrespect another artist’s work. So, the only shitty remixes I’ll mention here are ones I’ll create.
